Review: Moon Sworn by Keri Arthur

Moon Sworn Moon Sworn by Keri Arthur
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Mild spoilers.. maybe? Probably.

hm. It's over. Not quite sure how I feel about that.. Except that I am happy that it's over. I was basically forcing myself to go on in the series. It was a lot of the same story in each book. The only difference was who she was sleeping with at the time and her only steady lover(Quinn) I absolutely hated. So I just had a really hard time getting emotionally attached to the characters. But by time I formulated that opinion I was already 4 or 5 books in and I just had to finish it.

I will say that this book was pretty good. There was a lot of unresolved problems that finally came to an end. Riley was dealing with Kade and Kye's deaths, so that added some depth to her, I think. She has always been kind of unemotional and I hated that. It sucks that it only happened in the last book. She also had Blake, her old packs leader, trying to get his revenge. I like what happened with the pack.

Then there is Quinn... ugh... My opinion of him changed in the last book. From absolute loathing to ehhh I don't really care and this book brought him up just a little bit higher.. Just a little. I hold grudges against characters and I still can't get over the whole mind manipulation thing. Sorry buddy.

At the end of this book though, I do think him and Riley are perfect together. I love Rhoan and Liander. They are by far the best people in the book. I think the only reason I read on was because of them. The ending was pretty much perfect. I won't lie. It's been pretty obvious from my reviews of this series that it hasn't been my favorite but the ending made up for it. It's got to be hard to end a 9 book series and Keri Arthur did a fantastic job. All the loose ends were tied and they all lived happily as a pack. Adorable.

The Darkest Kiss by Keri Arthur

The Darkest Kiss The Darkest Kiss by Keri Arthur
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Quinn is back.. I hate Quinn. I don't understand why on earth she would ever let him back in her life. He manipulated her freaking mind! Honestly this book would be so much better if they just did away with the romance completely.
1. because I seriously can not stand Quinn and because he has been in the books since the first one, I have a feeling she will end up with him forevers. 2. Because Riley says she wants the whole white picket fence thing but she won't settle down. 3. The crime mysteries are enough to keep me happy with out the romance. And thats saying something since I usually only read romances. But it is just so freaking terrible in this book that it I don't even want it around. It just makes me think so much less of Riley.

In the last book we found out that Quinn has been using their mind connection to plant subliminal messages like; Don't go to the bars and stay away from Kellan. And then he uses it to make her go home or he tries to but she shifts and it didn't work as well. Of course he also hates that during the moon craze she has to sleep around (which I also think is shitty but I have given up on that rant a few books back.) She is a werewolf and that is just who she is. So in a way Riley thinks that he is trying to change a part of her. (again I don't agree.. he just wants you to sleep with only him. but whatevs.) My point is that Riley thinks all these things but as soon as he brushes a finger across her lips, she just doesn't care anymore? Bullshit. Have some self respect.

Anyways... rant over..ish. I actually really liked the rest of the book. The killer was interesting and I suppose I can't give a book a low rating just because I hate the romance can I?... YUP I can. Because it seriously makes me want to stop reading the series. Just know that it could have been 4 stars. But I hate Quinn and now I also kinda dislike Riley.

Full Moon Rising by Keri Arthur

I'm not quite sure how to rate this book.  I like some things about it but then the constant sex kinda ruined the whole thing for me.  Not that I mind a lot of sex in books. quite the opposite, but it was ALL Riley thought about.  Everything she did she first thought 'well how can I fit in sex first or after'.  I know she's a were and it was the full moon and that is suppose to make her need for sex uncontrollable but I just wasn't feeling it.  Why add the whole Moon Craze thing in there?  So Riley has an excuse to sleep with anything male.  And its okay because "Hey its the moon craze!"  She can't help it. It annoyed me. Plus the sex scenes weren't even that great. If you are going to overdo it, do it well.

But besides the whole "Riley has sex on the brain", I actually kind of liked her.  She wasn't a very deep character (this is also the first book so maybe she'll get better later) but one of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to female heroines is that they never listen to what anyone tells them.  Even when someone much older and much more experienced tells them one thing, they will do the opposite.  Riley actually listen to Quinn when he told her to run, she didn't waste time fighting about it.  She saw that it was the logical solution if they wanted to get out alive.  So that alone makes her kind of awesome.  She knows her limits when it comes to battle or missions or whatever.

I also really enjoyed the storyline.  Halfway through I thought I had it all figured out and I was totally wrong.  Well I was 3/4 wrong.  I liked that I couldn't guess what was going to happen next.

So I really couldn't decide what to rate this book.  Because while the storyline was fantastic as a whole.. the sex was so distracting.  It didn't add to the story.. It almost ruined it for me, I almost stopped reading the book. I really hope the next one chills out on all of that and if it doesn't I won't push past it and ignore it again.
