Review: Fallen

Fallen Fallen by Lauren Kate
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

So when I saw the trailer for the movie I got super excited and decided to re-read this book, or re-listen to it because I have the audio version.. and I hated it this time around. Like I hated everything about it. Which makes me sad because I remember loving this series so much. I first read the series probably about 2 years ago, I think.

But Luce, good god, Luce. She is one of the most pathetic heroines I've ever read. I know how the series ends and even with that in mind I think it's absolutely insane the way Luce stalks Daniel. I think it's pathetic to pine after someone who is so nasty to you, no matter that you "feel a connection" to him. And this is all knowing that they are destined to be together. I was thinking that if I didn't know that and I hadn't read the book before, I would have DNF it. That's how much I hated her. She is so incredibly naive for someone who sees shadows. When she finds out that Daniel knows her from other lives and always falls in love with her.. she runs away. It's the one thing she has wanted from him the whole time and instead of letting him explain, she runs away..

I wanted to re-read the whole series but now I don't know if I should. I ruined my good memory of this book. I am usually selective about what YA books I go back and re-read after I re read Significance but Shelly Crane and hated it. But I got so excited about the movie and now this is another book ruined. Im not going to change my star rating because I feel bad. I did enjoy the book the first time around so I'm leaving it at 4 stars.

Review: Shadow's Claim

Shadow's Claim Shadow's Claim by Kresley Cole
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I hate Bettina. She was a child. I think she was 22 or 24 I can't remember exactly but she acted younger. I guess I'm use to the females being centuries old but this one I just wanted to punch in the face. She was in love with her best friend. Who was a man whore to the extreme and he wasn't quiet about it. That's not 100% unusual i guess but when her best friend has ZERO interest in her as a female and has stated that fact multiple times and she's still desperately in love with him?? yeah no it just doesn't work for me. I know blah blah you can't just turn off feelings but the guy has never given any reason that he wanted her. Then she gets drunk and a male comes to her bed and she just assumes its her friend.. really? I just could not stand her and a bad character ruins a book. I wasn't overly fond of the story itself. A game to win the princess hand and a crown. Meh. Just not that exciting.

The one thing that I did like about this book was the progression of the relationship... parts of it annoyed me but I think in general I liked the pace and the way Trehan went about it. He was slowly seducing her and getting to know her. I liked him. He was sweet but incredible fierce and just an all around bad ass. He actually cared about her interest where even her BFF got distracted and stopped listening to her.

OH!!! The one thing I think I hated most about Bettina.. she chose concert tickets over the heads of the creatures that ruined her life? REEEEEEAAAAAALLLLLLYYYYYYYY????? Bullshit. That's just stupid. I would have fallen to my knees begging Trehan to marry me. She's a stupid cow.

2 stars is honestly generous...

Review: Crouching Tiger, Forbidden Vampire

Crouching Tiger, Forbidden Vampire Crouching Tiger, Forbidden Vampire by Kerrelyn Sparks
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I actually liked both characters and I liked the story. BUT the dialogue was cheesy as hell and thats one of my biggest no-nos. Nothing kills a story more. I physically cringed multiple times. I don't like all the feels. I read basically all romances so you would think that this wouldn't be a problem but it is.

This one was a lot better than the last couple books have been. I have wanted to know more about Russell for a long time and I loved him. He was sweet and surprisingly loving. He had no clue how great a guy he actually was. And Jia I liked as well. What I loved about this book and them as a couple is that they didn't do the whole we can't be together because we are different thing that happens in so many books. I mean sure it was there and they acknowledge it but they also acknowledged that they are attracted to each other and love each other. So yay for that.

Also was this the last book? I need to check. eel.

Review: Fire in the Blood

Fire in the Blood Fire in the Blood by Lily Freeman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Holy shit! This book was amazing! You defiantly need to read the first book before you pick this one up.

In the first book we have PJ falling in love with Luke. Well Luke and a bunch of lies. In the beginning of this book PJ is still willing to give Luke one more try and boy does she try. Luke says he is going to ease her into the pain but when they go to the club he goes all out. At least thats what it seems like to me and PJ didn't like it either. Thats when she realizes that this is only the beginning. Luke thinks that this session is easing her into it but it was already way too much for her. So she wants out. GOOD FOR HER!! Luke was getting kind of scary. And boy oh freaking boy does he get worse. He seriously goes crazy. And let me tell you that Lily can write a fantastic lunatic.

BUT PJ's gay neighbors are there to take care of her after the break up and save her from Luke and all of his crazy. So sweet. I love Mika and Elliot to death. Even in the last book I wanted PJ to get rid of Luke and hook up with them. Now they didn't quite get there in this book but the feelings are on the table and I am one happy reader.

I loved this book. I was a little scared of the first book, I mean I still loved it but this one was so much better. I love the different POVs. I LOVE that I honestly feel like I was in the characters minds. It was really cool to be in Luke's mind as he slowly lost his and I loved seeing Mika and Elliot fall in love with PJ and vise versa. I seriously loved the POVs.

I can not wait for the next book. I need me some more Mika and Elliott. I can't wait to see how that relationship plays out and what eventually happens to Luke. Fantastic book!

Review: A Court of Mist and Fury

A Court of Mist and Fury A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I feel like I have been reading this book for 500 years.. and then I look at my start date and I'm like seriously I started this book yesterday? How do I still have eyeballs. This book was freaking loooong but I enjoyed the book so I didn't mind.

I LOVE that Feyre didn't let Tamlin walk all over her.. I mean she did for awhile but I love that she broke free and grew up. I know a lot of people are upset of how Tamlin turned out but I gotta say that I'm not all that surprised. In the first book he didn't want a queen, he wanted someone to break the curse and she did that, and then he wanted her to continue to follow all his rules and to accept the way things were. Uh dude she broke a curse that has been plaguing your lands for almost 50 years. She was tortured and made to kill innocents do you really think she is going to be that same meek girl she was at the start of the first book? Hell no she's not. Now she is an immortal fae with more power than she or anyone knows. All he wanted to do was trap and hide her powers. Baby she was made to shine (literally).

Rhysand. Now there is one male I would very much like to have in real life. Was he not the most amazing thing to ever breathe? He has so much power and all he wants is peace. He is still devious and still slightly evilish all good qualities in a man I think but in this book we find out why he is that way and that he is also sweet and loving and just an honorable man.

Now the plot.. well the book was so damn long that I don't really know what the plot was.. thats bad right? I mean it was mostly about Feyre embracing her powers and learning to live in a new world. Which I loved!!! And I know that they are going to war but I don't know why.... how wait yes I do. Some want to enslave humans some do not. YESSSS thats it! I just didn't care as much about that part.. again I'm a bad reader. I just wanted more Feyre and Rhys.

That freaking ending blew my mind. For the last few chapters I was trying to figure out how it was going to end and how she was going to set up the next book and I 100% did not see that coming. At least not in the way she did it and not with Feyre still being Feyre. Very nicely done SJM.

Review: Wolf with Benefits

Wolf with Benefits Wolf with Benefits by Shelly Laurenston
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

eeeeekkkkk. I feel like a traitorous bitch writing this review and giving this book a low star rating but I did not like it at all! Shelly Laurenston is one of my all time favorite authors. Everything she writes its stinking hilarious but this book made me want to pull out my hair.

Toni had to take care of her family. Theres 10 kids and they are all geniuses and they are honestly a pain in the butt. They all have crazy schedules and get into lots of trouble and I totally understand why Toni would get stressed. But then she takes on a job that helps the hockey team and it's less social acceptable team members. So then her stress is on a whole new level. Which again is understandable but I don't freaking want to read about a woman losing her ever lovin mind! I was honestly stressed out reading the book.

Besides hating Toni and her drama I wasn't overly fond of Ricky Lee Reed. He wasn't a terrible male, he just did nothing for me and I didn't like how slowly their relationship played out. If I have to deal with Toni losing her shit I want there to be some good loving to read as well and there just wasn't.

So I am giving this book 2 stars and that is all because of Bo. Yes I said BO. He was thrown in this book and he helped Toni make a schedule for the kids and I just love him so flipping much. The rest of the book I could have done without.

Review: Father Mine

Father Mine Father Mine by J.R. Ward
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I swear I didn't bawl like a freaking baby. Not even one little tear rolled down my face...

Since I am completely caught up on the brotherhood books I know that Z is a fantastic father and that he and Bella are doing amazing but this book makes me love the couple more than I ever have. They have always been one of my favorite pairings. But reading about his struggles with fatherhood and how he overcame them makes me love ad appreciate his situation more. For some reason I never realized how hard it would be for him. When I first started the book I was pissed that Z could be cold toward his child. Given what he's been through I just thought he would want to shower his child with love like he does Bella. But when you figure out why he was cold toward Nalla, I just started crying and I didn't stop until the book was over. I mean he reads Dr. Seuss to her. COME ON! If you don't cry at that then you are a robot. Im still crying as I'm typing this and I'm talking sobbing like a baby. It's absolutely ridiculous.

Greatest novella ever. Well to be honest I don't usually read novellas but I may change that. This one has opened up a whole new world of love for me.

Review: A Torch Against the Night

A Torch Against the Night A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Hmmm.. uhhh... my opinion is not quite the same as everybody else. I loved the first book, like I LOVED it and I have had this book since the day it came out but I kept putting it off because I was terrified it was going to let me down.. and it did just a little bit. I have a horrible habit of putting too much pressure on sequels.

This book was kind of boring. I mean a lot of things happen but then there are parts where nothing is happening or when the POV switches and it goes back a couple weeks. So the story goes backwards and I just didn't like that at all. Also I HATED Laia. She made horrible, horrible decisions. Like all of them were bad and really with the Keenan thing. Its hard to talk about with out giving things away but just REALLY?! She is strong in this book. She is less afraid but still not really that smart. Although her biggest mistake nobody saw coming so ehh.

Elias I love. I loved him in the first book and I love him more now. He is pretty much perfection. I know he wanted away from the empire but he put himself in danger and put his family in danger for Laia when really he didn't have to. He is selfless, brave, strong, brilliant, sweet, courageous, and about a million other amazing things. If at the end of the series he ends up with Laia, no part of her will deserve him. The one good thing I will say about them together is that they don't lie to each other or keep things from each other. That is a HUGE pet peeve of mine when it comes to romances. They are upfront about what they are going through when it would have been easier to lie.

In the last book I know I was all for Elias and Laia. So I hated Helene and I kind of hated her for the first part of this book as well. To be honest I still go back and forth on liking her. She had impossible choices to make and in the end she pays dearly for them. I can not freaking wait to see what she does in the next book. She's going to kick some major ass. I also hope that she ends up with Harper. I want to know so much more about him.

So besides the characters, a lot happens in this book. But it's hard to talk about with out giving stuff away. There's a lot of killing and a lot of running and hiding. idk. The writing is magically fantastic. It is written beautifully and even the boring parts are interesting... that makes no sense but in my head it does. It was still a great book just not as great as the first.

Review: Undead and Unwed

Undead and Unwed Undead and Unwed by MaryJanice Davidson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book was absolutely ridiculous and I loved it!

Betsy is a total loon. She is obsessed with shoes and she's quite vain but she's also hilariously sarcastic. She takes nothing seriously. In real life I know I would probably hate her but I absolutely love reading about her and her life. What I did not like about this book was Sinclair. It's like the whole Charlie Davidison and Reyes all over again. I have read a few reviews and most of them go on and on about how amazing Sinclair is and I'm sitting here like.. what are you people smoking?.. He picks her up, shoves his finger in her mouth (he's a complete strangers at this point), I know he seeks her out to try and help her but he does it in such a creepy way, he uses his food (he treats them well and they don't seem to mind but still), he's snobby and arrogant and I just don't get why everyone loves him!!! OH and the huge reason I don't like him..he tricks Betsy. He doesn't reveal the whole truth and put himself in a great situation where Betsy doesn't have any kind of choice. So I hate him.

This book was fun and breezy and it an interesting story. I mean there wasn't a whole lot of substance but thats kind of what I liked about it. Sometimes it's nice to have to think when I read :)

Review: The Vampire With the Dragon Tattoo

The Vampire With the Dragon Tattoo The Vampire With the Dragon Tattoo by Kerrelyn Sparks
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

There were things that I loved and then there were things that I hated about this book.

Leah is a scientist that specializes in genetics which is just what the vamps need. So she is brought in as a consultant to help them. Thats how Dougal meets her. He thinks she has the soul of he long lost love. This is one thing I have a problem with. Does he pursue her because of her lost love or does he pursue her because of her own personality? I understand that later on Dougal falls in love with Leah and doesn't care if she's the reincarnated love or not but starting out it bothers me.

Leah has a huge issue with the whole vampire world at first. She was kind of ridiculous in her fear. I mean realistically its understandable but it was just kind of funny. I loved Dougal. He was so freaking adorable. He had no idea who to date or how to even approach it. I absolutely loved their love story and how it progressed. Even if I didn't like his initial motives, I still loved seeing it play out. It was sweet and fun and just enjoyable to read.

Of course the book can't be all butterflies and roses. There is an evil demon creating an army of men to take over the world... you know the normal stuff. I kind of lost interest (a little bit) towards the end. There was a lot of characters involved and they were all jumping around in different places and it wasn't that it was hard to follow but.. it just okay it was a little hard to follow or I just got bored with trying. I mean there was just so many people and they had the tiger tribe in there as well oh and not to mention the village that was drugged and they saved. So those were more people. It was just a lot to sort out and remember names.

But for the most part I enjoyed this book. It helps that I loved both characters and I loved the love story. I didn't care about the rest of it as much but it was still entertaining. It was nice because I haven't enjoyed the last couple book from this series and it has me excited for more again.

Review: Venomous

Venomous Venomous by Penelope Fletcher
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book was loooooooong. I read it on my kindle so I don't know exactly how long but GR says 652 pages. Thats hella long for an alien book. Also let me say that it is NOT smut. At least not what I would consider smut. There was some sex yes. It's defiantly not suitable for younger readers but I like me some more smut when I read about aliens. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed reading it but I wish it was a little more smutty and a little less long.

Lumen is a human that was taken from Earth. The slavers decide that she is sexually compatible with them so they give her as a price the the slave that wins a fight. The winner, Venomous, is Ra. Im not going to lie, he was weird. All his customs are weird and to top it all off they weren't able to communicate with each other. Lumen has made him a male, which means she is his life mate. Im not going to go in to specifics but he didn't have a gender until he saw her, weird alien.

This all happens in the first 30% of the book Then they are rescued. They go to his home world where there are a lot more weird Ra customs. She somehow makes a few other Ras into males. Blah blah. This all takes a very long time. My problem with the book was Lumen. She fights everything! Venomous is the most protecting, caring, loving, alien. He fights, kills, and endures ridicule from his loved ones for her and she still bitches at him. Ok so she has to take another Ra male as her mate but she openly admits that she's attracted to him and likes him but she doesn't like that he doesn't agree with everything she says so she makes him suffer. Literally it pains a male not to take his mate once she has made him a man. She denies him foreeeeeverrrr. I mean not literally she eventually accepts him but it's ridiculous how long she takes. These men do everything for her. She is a pampered princess and treats her men like shit. I am not a fan of her.

I would have liked the actually storyline if not for her. The whole Ra thing was pretty cool and I love the way the mates treated her. I just hated her. And I hated the length. Maybe if I liked the heroine I would not have minded how long the book was but since I didn't, I was pushing myself to finish the book.
