Review: The Guardian

The Guardian The Guardian by Margaret Mallory
My rating: 1 of 5 stars

Ian MacDonald is a douche, Sìleas was a silly ninny girl. Therefore I did not enjoy this book.

Ian wanted nothing to do with Sìleas when he was forced to wed her. Granted she was 13. What girl looks good when they are 13? He leaves to fight and he comes back and he doesn't even recognize his own wife... again he was gone for 5 years and at the young age women change a lot but still. So Sìleas has been longing for Ian for 5 years. She has stayed with his family/clan and helped it survive. She goes everyday to the sea to watch for her husband who said she was ugly and who literally had a knife to him when he wed her. She has held on to all these ridiculous fantasies that he was going to come back to her, take her in his arms and confess that he never meant any of the things he said and that he has missed her every day he was gone. Ridiculous. The reality is that he comes home and has every expectation of annulling the marriage (it was never consummated) When he sees her, he has no clue who she is. He just sees a pretty girl and he knows he wants to bed her.... So when he finds out that she is in fact his wife he decides that he will accept the marriage and let her be his wife. He literally thinks and says these things to her. And what does she do? Well he kisses her so she forgets about it. UHHHHHH mothereffer should be on his knees begging her to stay with him. Let me point out the wrongs he has done her and the rights she has done him.
1. He calls her ugly.
2. He leaves for 5 years and she wants him every day and he goes around with anything with breasts.
3. he comes home and doesn't recognize her.
4. She stayed with his family and helped run the house, take care of his sick father, helped his brother and mother with everything.
5. The woman who took Ian's virginity comes to stay at the house and she says nothing about it.
6. She has been humiliated and mocked for 5 years because she couldn't get her husband to come home.

All of this adds up to Ian being a complete and total douche. He doesn't redeem himself at all. When he finally beds her I guess he gets kind of sweet.... I mean he wants to save her but thats it.. That does not make up for all the wrongs.

Sorry I just could not get with this story because everything Ian did made me hate him and every time Sìleas forgave him it made me hate her.

Review: The Bound

The Bound The Bound by K.A. Linde
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Probably mild spoilers.

I love the storyline of this series. I also love the world building.

I won't lie.. I didn't like this book as much as first one. I felt like it was a little slow at first. BUT I like that the king wasn't the main love interest in this one. I was not a fan of him at all in the first book... like I straight up hate him. And I also loved all the traveling in this book and the closeness of the friends as they search for the 2 women.

Dean was amazing. Honestly he's way too good for Cyrene. Cyrene isn't all that great, lets be honest here. She's kissing the king, the prince and now another prince. And trouble follows her everywhere.

What I did not like about this book was the ending. I mean that was ridiculously mean and now I have to wait. There is a reason why I usually wait to start a series until most of the books are out.

Review: An English Bride In Scotland

An English Bride In Scotland An English Bride In Scotland by Lynsay Sands
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was pretty funny and I liked that.

Annabel has lived in a nunnery since she was 7. The only male she has seen was the father and she knows nothing about the real world because she was never allowed to leave. Until her mother comes and takes her back home just to marry her off to a Scottish lord/ clan chief... I can't remember what it is in this book but it's like the head honcho of the MacKay land.

It was hilarious to watch her stumble her way through the first couple of days. She got so excited when she saw certain birds and trees and just everything made her happy. I liked Annabel a lot. I loved her attitude. I loved her personality. She took what could have been a scary situation and she made the best of it and turned it into something fantastic.

I love Ross MacKay. He was large, bossy, and he was so incredibly sweet. He wasn't excited for the marriage to an English lady until he saw Annabel. He was amazing with Annabel and he loved all of her quirky behaviors.

I laughed a lot in this book and any book that can make me laugh is a fantastic book in my eyes.

Review: Blood Bound

Blood Bound Blood Bound by Traci Douglass
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I enjoyed this book for the most part. I wasn't a huge fan of Anna and really I didn't like Dante either. It's hard for me to get past that in a book. If I don't like a characters, especially when I don't like both the MCs, I usually struggle with liking the book. Anna is searching for her sister who has gone missing. She walks into a dangerous club and literally falls into Dante's hands. Dante ends up having to keep her for awhile to keep her save. And then there's lots of BDSM sex. IF you are not into that, you will not be into this book. I had a problem with Anna just kind of forgetting her sister because she was having sex. She was so worried about her that she ran right into danger but now that she's having sex she just sets it to the side. Not cool.

The writing in the book was good. The dialogue wasn't terrible. It was pretty good actually. And I think the world the book is in is exciting and different. I just didn't like the characters.

Review: Between the Devil and Desire

Between the Devil and Desire Between the Devil and Desire by Lorraine Heath
My rating: 1 of 5 stars

So no. I did not like this book at all. I've had the book for awhile. I got it right after I finished the last book in the series because I loved that one so much and I was so excited to learn more about Jack. But god I hated Olivia. She was your typical woman of the ton. She followed the rules to a T. Everything everyone did was improper and everything she did was perfect. I hated the banter between Jack and Olivia. They poked at each other and I understand that it was meant to be humorous but to me it just sounded ridiculous and most of it was childish and it kind of made me hate Jack.

The storyline goes incredibly slow. Which I get because Olivia is in morning and they are complete opposites. I did love the relationship of Jack and Henry. I think they were cute and that Jack actually made a fantastic guardian. But I hated Olivia's transformation. She goes from this prissy proper lady to having sex on a train while her son and nanny are a few cars away. Just doesn't seem plausible. But whatever.

This is what I really hated. What was incredibly disgusting, was the ending. Even though you can kind of see it coming. The whole time I thought there is no way the author is going to do this. It just can't happen. Its freaking nasty. I can't say what it is exactly because it's a HUGE spoiler. It's just very messed up and made me want to throw up a little bit. I've read a few reviews and I do not understand why people aren't more freaked about it. Maybe I'm making too big a deal about it.

Review: Owned

Owned Owned by M. Never
My rating: 1 of 5 stars

This is maybe the 3rd book I've read where the relationship is master/slave or in this case master/pet and I am just not a fan of them. I try because in theory it sounds good but when I'm reading I just want to scream at the helplessness of her situation. Especially with this book where Ellie was kidnapped and made into a pet by someone she actually liked. So I think Im going to stop reading trying to read them. I forced myself to finish this book because I needed to know why Kayne was doing what he was doing. Even though I don't agree in anyway that there wasn't another way to save her. Off the top of my head I can think of 7 different ways he could have protected her without making her a slave. And I'm sure if I sat here and thought about it there would be a lot more. So I HATE that his reasoning was protection.

So the storyline wasn't great. I mean I wanted to know what was going on so thats something. I honestly skimmed a lot of the sex scenes towards the end. I hate that Ellie was starting to like it. I hate that her freewill was taken away from her and she was starting to be okay with it. She was falling in love with a man who kidnapped her, chained her while she slept, put a collar on her, abused her repeatedly (and more than once just because he was frustrated with someone else), he didn't technically rape her.. but he did touch her without her permission and he got off on that shit. I am okay with all the dominating stuff as long as there is consent and the is zero consent in this book. But to be fair, the author does warn you about the slave relationship. I just always go into thinking it won't be as bad as it is.

I think I probably will read the next book because I've read a few reviews and it seems that the relationship goes to a sub/dom role and that I like. I really, really hope that's true. Otherwise I won't push myself to finish it like I did with this book.

Review: Do You Want to Start a Scandal

Do You Want to Start a Scandal Do You Want to Start a Scandal by Tessa Dare
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

By far my favorite from this series. Actually my favorite Tessa Dare book that I've read.

We finally get Charlotte's story. We have watched her mother push her at every available male in every book so far. This book is really no different. Charlotte and her mother have been in London for her season and she has earned a reputation (I can't remember the exact thing they ton calls her) but basically she's a woman who is trying to trick a rich man into marriage. Charlotte's mother pushed her in front of a horse to get a Duke's attention. All ridiculous and it's defiantly something Charlotte does not want. So she tries to warn Lord Piers Brandon that her mother will try to force a marriage and they end up in a compromising situation with out the help of her mother.

I honestly loved everything about this book. I LOVED Charlotte and Piers. Charlotte was hilarious. She was completely honest to Piers and to herself and she was hilarious without trying to be. And Piers was actually kind of sweet, which I was not expecting at all. But what I loved about this book so much is that neither one of them denied their attraction to each other. I loved that Piers didn't try to hide that he wanted her as his wife. He claimed he could never love her and I loved that he was upfront about that. Basically I just loved all the honestly. There wasn't trickery.. well there was at the end but not really.

It took me until about halfway to realize that Piers was the brother from Say Yes to the Marquess. It never clicked until Rafe showed up. That was exciting :)
